Class Task- Studio

In this picture we played with the back lighting to bring out the detail in Tonies Hair

3 Point Lighting. Key, Fill and Backlighting to create a more 3D Dimensional look
We then realised that the background wasnt as white as it should, so we then put another
lamp to reflect on the Background to lighten up the colour.

In this photo the background colour is more whiter

In this image we worked with gels mixing red and purple together.

I chose black and white because i love that its a format that suits almost any type of photography. Portraits, Landscapes, Urban landscapes, architecture. It adapts to any lighting situations whereas with colour you will need brightly lit studios or a bright sunny day. By taking the colour of the image it speaks for itself. Some people think that black and white can be harsh. Black and White can also express feelings that are felt at the exact moment. A feeling of confusion, darkness, grief or it could be a feeling of love, peace and security.

Lisa Reihana

Lisa Reihana is a Maori artist who has played a leading role in the development of film and multimedia art in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Her work demonstrates a keen interest to communicate complex ideas about indigenous identity and bi-cultural living. Reihana's desire to address and engage with contemporary experience through diverse media is expressed in installations that are collages drawn from eclectic sources. Her examination of cultural histories utilises photography, sculpture and time-based arts.

In this task we have been asked to manipulate a photo of an artist. I have chosen to manipulate a photo by Lisa. I worked in the Studio using only a back light (Left side where you can see where the light is coming from on her hair) and a fill on her right, so that i could achieve the black background. It seems that Lisa has only used one main source of lighting on her right cheek. (This is evident on her left cheek where you can see the soft shadow bouncing of her whole left side of her
face.)

I then realised that my background wasnt as wide as shown on lisa reihanas so then i had to think what could i do to make my background wider? So i then thought that if i used the masking tool and grab a plain black background picture from the internet i would be able to merge my subject (susie) to the black background i got from the internet, make my subject smaller so that i could crop just from the top of her hair. This is my end result.

Final post production of Susie Popata, Photoshop mimic of my final artist Lisa Reihana.
