10: How to Hang a Framed Photo Correctly

Hanging photos on a wall should be done correctly to prevent them from falling and so the photos are hung level. It is important to make sure that there are no electrical wires in the wall that a nail or hook may puncture. A live wire detector can be used to determine whether there are any wires behind the wall. This device scans the walls and can detect where wires, pipes, and studs are located. To ensure the photo frame will be mounted at the correct height on the wall, use a pencil to mark where the top of the photo frame will be. Using a ruler, measure the distance on the frame between the top of the frame and the wire or the hanging tab on the photo frame. Measure this distance down from the pencil mark on the wall and make another mark. This is where the picture frame hook or nail will go in the wall. Hammer the picture hook into the wall and hang the photo frame on the wall. A spirit level can be used to ensure that the photo frame is straight if two hooks on either end of the frame are required to hang the photo.
